The 2010 edition of the stage was held from a complete new venue. The cultural, historical and mysterious site of San Simón Island was the Headqurters for our practice. The perfect location of the island and the top end facilities were a great luxury for everyone. Not only we had our boats rigged right in front of our door. We also had the chance to practice some wakeboarding and paddled with kayak’s around the area to visit our friend Captain Nemo and his divers.
Sailors from Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Portugal, USA, Slovenia and Spain got together for a great week of sailing and racing.
The practice on the water was extremely good. The current was always an interesting strategy fact to consider. Most of days we sailed in light conditions, and some other days with medium breeze and decent chopp. Both types of conditions are very demanding in the technical aspect. Taking advantage of the smaller group we had this year, we were able to work in a lot of details and with personal attention to each sailor’s technique and rigging.
We did a lot of speed testing and maneuvers, to later move into starting drills and small races.
We also had 2 long distance races. One was a full upwind practice from Vigo to San Simón. The other one was 2 days later, a full downwind practice, from San Simón to Vigo. In both cases we sailed under the Rande Bridge, and enjoyed the great scenario.
On the final day we sailed in the racing area for the Semana del Atlantico, which was taking part right after the clinic.
Every morning and afternoon we had video sessions and some theory lessons, to reinforce what we practiced on the water and introduce some new ideas.
All sailors had a great time, and they worked really well as a group. Once again, our friends in Vigo gave us a great week of sailing. Looking forward to be there again next year!!!Gonzalo pollitzer
